Halloween's Top 10 Free STL's & Costume Ideas

With the multicolored leaves crunching beneath our feet and the chilly air nipping at our cheeks it is once again that time of year. Fall has come, bringing with it my favorite Holiday, Halloween and watching the creative things people come up with for their costumes. I wish I had an image of the 12ft (3m) grim reaper I witnessed roaming the residential streets. There was a harness shaped like a backpack that held the shoulder pad like base to his shoulders. Through the faceless hood two glowing red eyes seemed to fallow wherever anyone went. There was fog spewing from under the Grimm’s cloak. Not very many children dared to wonder to close.

Getting into the spirit I have been scouring the internet for 3D printable costumes and Halloween themed STL files. Days could be spent without finding what you are truly looking for so I bring to you some of the Top Costume and Halloween files I can find, free of Charge.

Mini Oogie Boogie

This little guy's are my newfound favorite that was introduced to me by my friend, Dane Strickland. I have printed him several times with very little support. It is hard to stop printing the cuteness he unleashes. The texture on him is spot on with the type of Burlap he is made from.

Witch Benchy

Of course, I found a Benchy to help celebrate in the festivities. The spider webs were printed separately and glued on afterwards. Here is to testing your prints with spirit.

Boneheads: Skull Box w/ Brain

I have not tried to print this little Skull with removable brain, though my nephews would really get a kick out of the removable brain. It has been found on both Cult’s & Thingiverse with very high ratings and number of prints.

Skull lantern

I instantly added this one to the list upon the first sight. It is a cool little lantern with not very many pieces. I do thing it would be interesting to try out some Glow in the Dark filament on one of these and really raise the Spook factor.

Horror Movie \ Halloween Lithophone

This multi part Horror Film/ Halloween themed project is so very cool.  It has a lithophone with the creatures from the old-time movies. Built with a revolving base the top portion has some of their faces done in a way that no matter where you are in the room their eyes will fallow you. This has been on my to-print list for the last couple of years, perhaps one of you would like to take on this project.

Now that we have gone through some cool little keepsakes and items that would make your Halloween party a big hit, it is time that I shed some light on some costumes, masks, and props that can help bring your character to life.

Fortnite Kitsune mask

This is a nice mask from a very popular video game that my sons play. It can be quite intense when it is 99 people versus one and I hear the excitement and disappointment coming from the room next to mine.

Iron Man Mark XXXIX Gemini (MK 39) Full Body Armor File

The talent harnessed at Do3D is awe-inspiring and coupled with makers in the 3D printing community makes now the most wonderful time to be alive. The dreams that have been foreshadowed for generations can now be brought to life with the simple machines in our own home. Do3D does sell some great STL files but they have a rather large free section that once you see the STL you really find it hard to believe they are giving them away. Here is a direct link to the free items.

It is probably too late in the season to be starting some of these, but it would be a great time to plan for next year. I do have to say that some of the STL's are astonishing and beyond my wieldiest dreams and I am proud to be a part of this community and I look forward to what is next to come.

Be safe and have a happy Halloween.
